Comments for Linux n00bI'll be writing about my experiences as a person just learning Linux, and want to hear from others just learning, so that I may learn, and others can learn from you.Comment by cbertram68 on Yeah DELL, and news about my daughter- May 14, 2007 Sure Ed, not sure if this would help you or not, but it definetely helped me. I was living at a place where for lack of a better word I was sharing Internet with some neighbors. At any rate at the time Mepis did not do a good job of finding open or secure wireless connections, that even includes Internet cafe's and such. So I did some searching and found this program, it will tell you the names of the near by wireless access points, and will tell you if they are secured or un-secured.http://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/linux-noob/yeah-... Comment by Horned_Owl on Yeah DELL, and news about my daughter- May 13, 2007 Just joined the Linux world with Ubuntu in Feb 07, after spending a year doing disk-run "live" experimentation. I started with a 6.10 disk, then upgraded online to 7.04. I'm loving this! It even sees and mounts my NTFS and Fat32 drives from "the other side" (I'm a dual-boot laptop...), not to mention providing superior sound, graphics and video! I think I'm enough in love that I'll pass on Vista, and go straight to Linux.Only one problem mars my fantasy lover: I can't seen to get herhttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/linux-noob/yeah-... Comment by Locutus on Yeah DELL, and news about my daughter- May 5, 2007 Sometimes when I end up with a black screen because I have been playing around with the X11 settings and stuffed things up. The first thing I normally do is "ctrl + alt + F1" which should get me to a console screen. From there I can poke around in the "varlog" directory and "more" or "less" a few logs like "messages" or "auth" or "X11something". That will give you a good idea of what went wrong. !!a href="http:blogs.ittoolbox.comlinuxnhttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/linux-noob/yeah-... |
