I've been testing bitmap indexes in columns with cardinality of about 10000 values in tables with over 20 million rows and it's much better than no indexes. And I was wondering what was the real low cardinality thing...I always thought of it as being relative to the number of rows of the table...but nobody was saying it mostly. Most of the examples are the very very low cardinality columns... !! I am not satisfied with the fact that oracle stores uncommitted data in the data files and redo log files, because this will make an IO overhead while writing data to the data files and reading them again, also there will be memory overhead in the case of instance failure when oracle rolls forward then rolls back.
