Comment on Pic of the Week - Light to the Heavens by Raj - August 29, 2008

Thanks Ben, I like the leaves as well - they really draw you into the picture. If I get this one printed, I'm going to crop out the Mandalay Bay that is peeking into the left side of the frame.

You know my favourite thing about this picture isn't the spectacular light, the deep contrast, the geometric lines, etc. Rather my favourite thing is the leaves on the palm trees. The long exposure and apparent slight motion makes the leaves appear to be soft, almost fuzzy. Very cool! Oh, and all that other stuff I mentioned is good too.

Comment on Real iPhone 3G Data use by Raj - August 29, 2008

I agree Ben, the App Store is certainly something that is going to eventually increase the data use on that device - keeping the novelty up, and bringing out new apps that are data centric. On the WiFi3G side, up here, I've got access to both, but WiFi is certainly convenient when you are dropped into an EDGE or GSM region. I know I've used that already this week on the bold where I was in a building that was only getting GSM, but I was able to hop onto campus wireless to get some browsing...

Comment on Real iPhone 3G Data use by Ben - August 29, 2008

I find the reasons I don't use a lot of Data are: a) no 3G coverage in Lethbridge (Edge is so slow, I'd rather wait till I'm in range of a Wi-Fi network) b) Wi-Fi network! Seriously, this thing is so awesome on Wi-Fi! I'd love to have 3G available here to compare how close it comes to a good broadband connection over Wi-Fi. I got the 6GB plan, and unlike other handheld devices where the novelty wears off and you end up using less over time, the iPhone (due to a hugely developing app store...

Comment on A Bold Step by Raj - August 22, 2008

My thing with phones is that I'm interested in mLearning ubiquitous computing and they are a far more suitable platform than UMPCs. I would have likely still been happy as a clam with my Pearl, but I want to explore location based learning as well - see what we can do when we add GPS into the mix.

I have no idea how you can talk so much about a phone. But then I am never going to leave the "I upgrade my phone once ever 3 years, tops" crowd. But then I also know exactly zero about the Blackberry Bold So .... HI!
