IR-only digital camera - September 17, 2008

Sean Ragan converted his old digital camera to sense infrared light better by changing out a filter in front of the CCD. He has some nice insights into the problems that could arise when doing this type of modification such as filter thickness and cutting one down to size. From the MAKE Flickr photo pool Funnypolynomial used a discarded laptop to create this excellent remake - I rescued an old Thinkpad ages ago and began a project to install it in a picture frame. The original idea was to have it running things like Conway's Life and the Mandelbrot set. But then I saw the Pong Clock on a blog and decided to just do that instead. Pipe lamp exudes hardware class - September 16, 2008

From the MAKE Flickr photo pool Patrick writes - A lamp I designed and built out of various pipe materials I got from Home Depot. It has a water valve style dimmer switch.
