The same system would look around and recruit additional computing resources if the situation were too dire, the problem too difficult.http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-06/uosc-bcd062608.php MySpace looks to USC to help servers keep up with users- June 26, 2008 (University of Southern California) Computers -- including giant network servers -- store data in two places: cache and disk, with only cache data instantly accessible. But cache space is limited. The classic algorithm for deciding what to erase from cache to replace with new information from disk is simple: "least recently accessed." Researchers believe new heuristic algorithms may work better for giant systems like that of MySpace, allowing more users faster access.http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-06/uosc-mlt062608.php |
