I have a somewhat similar situation to Shorter1. I had just started a job last year May. Exactly a month to the day, I had an car accident coming home from work. Because of the accident, I needed some time off. But, ebcasue I hadn't had enough leave time, etc, I didn't have any options but to resign. On May 30, '07, IBM "downsized" 1,300 of us in the "BICRMDW" practice effective June 30 -- too many consultants, not enough signed contracts to keep them all busy (BILLABLE) in that practice. I was on an ongoing engagement with an IBM client, who prevailed upon IBM to keep me around until the end of August to finish my "work-in-progress" for them. I have always kept my options open by keeping in contact with as many folks as possible (some would call it "networking") and always keeping a pulse on the local job market. I was unemployed for all of a week, but my situation was indeed a bit unique, as I went to work for a former customer of my former employer. I've been here 7 weeks, and its going good.
