Reports about Europe's environment

Reports published by EEA (Theme: all, Audience: all, Sorted on: publish date)

Air Quality in Europe, 1993 - A Pilot Report - July 27, 1997

An overview of air quality in Europe for 1993 is presented. The overview covers air pollution levels on the local and regional scales. The intention of such reports from the European Topic Centre for Air Pollution is to present comprehensive, annual summaries of European air pollution, covering all components of interest, all scales and trends. The precondition for presenting such summaries is that data from representative stations throughout Europe is made available and collected in a data base

Air pollution monitoring in Europe - Problems and trends - July 25, 1997

This report represents an overview of the air quality monitoring practice in European in recent years. Information is based on returned questionnaires from 24 countries and national reports from 6 other countries. the report presents summaries of the spatial coverage of AQ monitoring in European, and a summary of the recent monitoring activities in Europe in international programmes. Included too are a discussion of the availabillity of data to external users in a European perspective.

European Freshwater Monitoring Network Design - July 15, 1997

This report describes in detail the design of a freshwater monitoring network proposed for improvement of quantitative assessment of water resources - aquifers, rivers, lakes and reservoirs - across Europe. The proposed network is designed to give a representative view or assessment of water types within a Member Country and also across the EEA area. It will ensure that similar types of water bodies are compared.

Human Interventions in the Hydrological Cycle - July 14, 1997

Human interventions can have profound effects on water resources, water quality and aquatic and riparian ecology. There is a need to quantify both their extent and importance, and to quantify the nature and significance of the effects they have. This report describes a scoping study carried out by the European Topic Centre on Inland Waters to set the terms of reference for a later study which will quantify and compare human interventions across all European Environment Agency member countries.

Water resources problems in Southern Europe - July 14, 1997

The availability of water for human consumption, and for other uses, is often limited by poor quality. Typical water resource issues in water scarcity areas include: water surface exploitation; reservoir and lake eutrophication; aquifer exploitation; minimum and ecological flow; wetlands; seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers; etc.. The report highlights some key issues and identifies aspects that require further work before the scale of the problems can be fully quantified.

European Freshwater Monitoring, Summary of Network Design - July 12, 1997

This report summarises the design of a freshwater monitoring network proposed for improvement of quantitative assessment of water resources - aquifers, rivers, lakes and reservoirs - across Europe. To minimise cost implications the network should be based where possible on existing national and international networks, use existing sources of information and produce an EEA database of aggregated data and information rather than provide a collection of raw non-processed data.
