Photo Maps - September 30, 2004

Having disappeared this weekend to writing a routing and rating engine for a client who needed one urgently, I am re-emeging thinking about mapping, location based services, and geo-spatial data in earnest. In my attempts to figure out how to parse the Tiger Line Data (the US census's map of the us), I ran across 93 Photo Street. It allows you to sort your photos by location, which I think is really cool. Check out this great example for Virtual Realty or the Sibley Volcanic Regional Park..

Dowser: clustered search - September 23, 2004

Just saw the Dowser project via del.icio.us. From the project page: Dowser is a research tool for the web. It clusters results from major search engines, associates words that appear in previous searches, and keeps a local cache of all the results you click on in a searchable database. It helps you keep track of what you find on the web. Interesting... I wonder how they are doing their clustering. The page doesn't really appear to say. Maybe bayesian classifying Other than that, it...

A9 and "Beyond the Web" - September 15, 2004

A9, Amazon.com's search engine powered by Google and Alexa is now powered by a lot more Until now you could only search the web and Amazon's indexed books. Now you can search for relavent results in movies, history, reference, and more as well. One more reason why A9 is my search engine of choice.

The player reminds me kind of Windows Media Player 9 with a web browser built in. You have a library which is a tree of artiststrackssongs. There is also a web browser where you search for the..

Tune Tag Update - September 8, 2004

I updated Tune Tag to include a couple bug fixes, but more importantly it now links you to the iTunes store when you're listening to net radio so you can purchase what you're listeining to. Bon Apetite.

Picasa - September 6, 2004

I've been using Picasa a bit lately to organize my photos. Works real nice, as my last entry shows. I especially like the enhance and red-eye features. Guess which one of these pictures is enhanced.

Bookmarking Music - September 2, 2004

How I wish there a way to book mark music. I'm listening to Radio Paradise (via Shoutcast), and I want to remember the artistsong. If only there was a "tag for later" button. I don't need to listen to it again, just for iTunes to remember the artistsong (although listening on demand would be sweet).
