Boil water advisory continues- (Found July 15, 2008 ) Its now week four for a boil water advisory in a Kitchener neighbourhood. Homes on the north side of Waterloo Street are still affected. Kitchener Utilities continues to work on it and test water. The new watermain has been connected but water testing and the boil advisory continues. Cambridge police catch speeders- (Found July 15, 2008 ) Troubling results from operation corridor. On the 4-0-1 through Cambridge officers stopped 78 vehicles and laid 64 speeding charges. Three of the vehicles stopped were going over 150-kilometres an hour. Six unlicenced drivers were removed from the highway, there were two liquor seizures and numerous insurance related charges were made. One officer found a truck driver carrying a load of dangerous goods that wasn't certified. Ideas wanted for Kitchener park- (Found July 15, 2008 ) The city of Kitchener will host a public meeting Thursday night about the future of Guelph Park. The park had to be closed for almost two months after discoloured soil was found. The manager of park planning say they want to backfill the area with clean soil. Thieves target Neons- (Found July 15, 2008 ) A record breaking night for Dodge Neons in Waterloo Region. Overnight Thursday, six of the vehicles were stolen from 2 am until 6 am. The cars were taken from driveways in Cambridge and Kitchener. Only one of the cars has been discovered. Waterloo Regional police believe the same thieves are involved. Drug lab probe continues- (Found July 15, 2008 ) Police continue to investigate the possibility of a drug lab at a home explosion on Sweetbriar drive. Staff Sergeant Ray Massicotte, the head of the drug unit with waterloo regional police says it's a reminder of how dangerous they can be. Massicotte says these labs are easy to create and easy to hide. He says police have been alerted to several of them--only after a major fire or explosion in the home. Alumnists are handing out seven thousand whoopie cushions and hope to break the world record for the loudest fart. The old record was set a few years ago in the U-K when 13-hundred people sat on their whoopie cushions at the same time. Province takes control of MRI clinics- (Found July 15, 2008 ) The premier says a plan to buy back private M-R-I clinics will help put the brakes on health-care privatization. Shutting down the private clinics allowed by the previous Conservative government was a key part of the Liberal election platform.Dalton McGuinty also says the province plans to open nine new M-R-I testing facilities. Fallen officers remembered- (Found July 15, 2008 ) About 30 officers from Waterloo Regional police joined a ceremony in Ottawa yesterday in memory of officers who have died in the line of duty. Thousands of police officers from across the country gathered on Parliament Hill. Kennedy wants an apology from Witmer- (Found July 15, 2008 ) Ontario's new education minister wants an apology from the former. Kitchener-Waterloo MPP Elizabeth Witmer accused the Liberals of trying to lower the province's education standards by redesigning standardized tests. Witmer is quoted in a weekend story of the Toronto Sun as saying the changes will achieve the governments committment to have 75 per cent of students make the grade in provincewide testing but changing the tests to achieve the committment won't help the students.
