Chicken Chow Mein - March 28, 2008

This recipe comes from a cookbook called Cooking for Today Simple Chinese Recipes. The recipe says that you can use pork in place of chicken and to use Chinese egg noodles. I also add more green beans and have never used the chili sauce. -- posted by cookee monster

On Your Way to Five a Day Stirfry - March 28, 2008

The title refers to the fact that this dish is packed full of healthy vegetables. It's low fat (especially if you use minced turkey instead of pork) and the quick cooking means the vegetables retain a lot of their nutrients. Vegetarians can omit the meat altogether and include other vegetables andor tofu or Quorn and substitute tamari soy sauce and mushroom ketchup for the fish and oyster sauces - or buy branded vegetarian versions from health and specialist shops. NB: If doubling up...

Shenandoah Chicken - March 28, 2008

This is a spicy sweet and sour chicken dish. The spicy being the addition of Creole seasoning. I love the extra spice....if you get it right, it will sneak up on you in a good way. It's an entree I had at this now closed restaurant in Northern Virginia. It was served on a cast iron skillet with Jasmine rice. My mom and I set out to recreate it and are pleased with the results. I am still searching for the best sweet and sour sauce recipe to make it perfect. -- posted by Kitchen Witch Steph

Sukiyaki - March 26, 2008

A simple, easy to make, flavorful dish your family will enjoy. This dish can be served with white or brown rice depending on your family's preferences. If you are using white rice, start cooking it and then start preparing the sukiyaki. If you want to serve brown rice, start the brown rice 20 minutes ahead of stir fry cooking so they will both be done at the same time. If you like heat in your dishes you can add hot chili oil or red pepper flakes to taste. Bon appetit-- -- posted by plantfreek

Kittencal's Honey-Garlic Glazed Meatballs - March 21, 2008

This is an easy recipe made even easier if your meatballs are pre-made ahead of time which makes this a perfect weekday meal served with cooked rice ---I have listed the chili flakes as optional you may adjust to suit taste or omit, my family likes extreme heat so I use 1 teaspoon --- the meatballs must be pre cooked before adding to the sauce, you may use frozen cooked store bought meatballs or use your own favorite recipe, you may double the sauce recipe if desired, prep time does not include.

Christopher's Teriyaki Stir Fry - March 15, 2008

This is a great stir fry recipe for the beginner. A friend's husband makes it for his family of six on a regular basis. His directions are straight forward and simple. Sure to give you great results. Prepping ahead won't take you long and the actually cooking can be complete in under 20 minutes. It's a real hit with the kids. When not making my own teriyaki sauce, my favorite bottled sauce is made by Annie's Organics. The recipe called to stir fry with sesame oil but I choose to fry with other.
