And next year would be my 20 year HS reunion - May 29, 2008

Think I should go My high school is embroiled in a scandal because a 'relationships' page had a lesbian couple. Some things change, like openly gay or lesbian couples. Too bad the rest of the town hasn't changed. Stupid, frightened people. Anyone who wonders why I'm a wee bit messed up has never visited my horrifying redneck hometown. I want to write more about this. Another anniversary- our lousy landlords still haven't done any repairs. One way or the other, it looks like we're moving..

And the most disgusting thing I have put in my mouth - May 23, 2008

I've added soy milk to my tea and coffee for years. I have become so accustomed to the taste that milk now tastes a bit odd to me. The other day I bought organic cookie dough at the grocery store. Apparently organic ingredients are more temperamental in the oven than scary processed ingredients, as the cookies came out really crunchy. I had the bright idea to dunk them in soy milk. I do also have little containers of milk, but I was curious if the soy would be okay for dunking. I dunked, it..

Things I stick in my mouth - May 18, 2008

Saturday I went with my old roommate Charlie to the 9th Avenue Food Street Fair. Normally I avoid these things, but Charlie told me that they had fried Oreos. Obviously I had to go. View from the top. There were a lot of choices. I immediately bought the fried Oreos. They were interesting. They had the right flavor, but the hydrogenated oil that makes the cream so yummy also basically dissolves. Still, I ate 3, Charlie ate 1. The first sugar rush made me forget to take a pic. They were..

My luck shall explode everywhere - May 13, 2008

As the pigeon crapped on my head yesterday, I immediately thought about the Russian adage that 'if a bird poops on you, you will have good luck.' Actually, first I frantically squeegee'd my head, tried not to make a huge spectacle, and THEN I thought about the adage. Oh luck, please be at Bed Bath and Beyond, where I am buying a vent for the bathroom window to help with the stench in the apartment.

What I am going to spend all the insurance money on - May 12, 2008

Screw replacing the mattress, my printer, that sort of thing. I MUST HAVE THESE. The R2-D2 DVD Projector.. It is ONLY $2900, which means nothing, as I was suddenly 8 years old again, seeing Star Wars for the first time in the theater. I think I should buy 2.

Smoky and the bears - May 11, 2008

I didn't go to work on Wednesday and Thursday, as the renters insurance paid for two companies to come to the apartment- one for picking up all our clothes to be dry cleaned, and the other one for cleaning everything in the house. We had smoke and water damage all through the house, so once all the clothes were hauled off, the other company wiped down EVERYTHING. This made the apartment dramatically more liveable, although the walls still smell, and we keep finding stuff that is still grimed..

Lesson for today: get tenant insurance - May 8, 2008

Derrick and I are listening to the occasional plunk of parts of the ceiling drop onto the floor in our wrecked bedroom. It's like rainfall, but with more masonry. We're on the couch in the living room tonight, after staying at our friend J & P's house last night. The bedroom is a bit of a disaster, with about half the ceiling collapsed, mattress and clothes marinating in smoke-filled water, and the walls blistered and peeling. Not exactly what I wanted to face after my first attempt at...
