Comment by mmeloni on Sticks and Stones- August 18, 2008 Oh yes, after we remodeled our kitchen a friend came over and said, "Well your contractor must have been really good, I can't find any mistakes." I guess that was her whole point of reference too, looking for mistakes..... !! Comment by JB King on Sticks and Stones- August 18, 2008 The negative phrasing is something I've thought about a lot over the past few weeks as if someone is using it, I tend to be a little irritated by it as it can trip me up. For example, if I'm walking down a staircase and someone is repeatedly saying, "Don't trip, don't fall," it just causes me to think about that which I'm trying to avoid rather than what I want. That's like trying to tell an adult, "Don't think about sex for the next 2 minutes," and see how long that lasts! We come across specially in SCM area not to respond properly when a vendor calls to attend, expect him to be on his toes always when we want him. Comment by Sridhar Peddisetty on Don't Kill the Message- August 4, 2008 Margaret Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I am completely with you when you say "Don't kill the message". It is a pure coincidence that today morning I actually followed it before I read your write up. This happened when I spoke to a colleague whom I was thinking till date more as a path blocker but after listening patiently to what he has to say, I realized that his message indeed had some very useful & helpful points. So if we eliminate the "noises" from our preconceived nhttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/the-human-side/d... Comment by cbtoolkit on I Should Know Better- August 2, 2008 I think we just fall into patterns. Many actions we know are risky are really only somewhat risky - water or coffee next to your laptop for instance. If you are analyzing the situation, you see a risk but the fact is, if you do it 20 times, chances are none of those 20 results in a disaster. But 1 in 500 might prove to be a disaster. Assuming we are getting email almost daily, that would be 1 time in a 2 year timeframe. 1 in 5http://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/the-human-side/i... |
