Comments for Corporate Portfolio ManagementInsights, pragmatic discussion, and conversation about corporate portfolio management, innovation and cost optimization as well as general business hilarity. Whether you call it enterprise portfolio management, IT portfolio management, project portfolio management, investment optimization or some other term, efforts at optimizing your resource allocation are key to long term organizational success. Unfortunately, living in a high rise in NYC doesn't afford us the opportunity to use DirecTV else we'd probably have been there many moons ago. In the meantime, I keep the faith that an alternative will emerge (one day). Thanks again, Anand Brilliont !! Comment by Brian Driggs on Customer Disservice 101: Learn from Time Warner Cable- August 20, 2008 There is always DirecTV, which I've found outperforms traditional cable in both picture quality and customer service. Of course, I'm pretty sure they are not an ISP. Even so, if you can take even a couple dollars out of a poor vendor's pockets, it's a small victory. !! Comment by Anand Sanwal on Not All Aboard - Amtrak Needs $15B- August 20, 2008 David, Thanks for the followup comment. I'm sure Amtrak will get the money given the government's spotty record around resource allocation :) And maybe one day, they'll figure out a way to make some money (at least once). Thanks again for the comment. I look forward to future comments and dialogue. Regards, Anand Brilliont !! Comment by David Bergeron on Not All Aboard - Amtrak Needs $15B- August 18, 2008 Anand: let me respond to your points individually. 1) You're right. 2) I agree 3) You're right. But in this world of pork barrel politics and subsidies, etc., I just want to see Amtrak's playing field levelled, before singing the 'disappearing railroad blues' (Arlo Guthrie again) I also realize that if you allow Amtrak to carry freight, then the RR's who own the tracks would probably drive Amtrak out of business. I'm sure that everyone who follows transporthttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/brilliontblog/no... Comment by Anand Sanwal on Not All Aboard - Amtrak Needs $15B- August 15, 2008 David, Thanks for your comment, and I appreciate the viewpoint. Amtrak carrying freight does sound like a good positive step as you suggested and I'm glad you mentioned them being handcuffed in this regard. Overall, I've heard from many folks that I'm not being "fair & balanced" because other railroads don't make money either or that they're heavily subsidized in Europe or that airlines all are terrible as well. In all honesty, I find all these benchmarks somewhat irrelevanthttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/brilliontblog/no... Comment by David Bergeron on Not All Aboard - Amtrak Needs $15B- August 15, 2008 I don't think Amtrak would be such a bad bet if it were allowed to carry freight. Amtrak's hands are tied by laws preventing them from doing this. (Since they use much of other RR's tracks, they aren't allow to compete against them by carrying freight) Also - can you please compare the federal subsidy given to Amtrak vs the subsidies given to airlines and the interstate highway system You remark that Amtrak's past projects have gone poorly; how would you compare them agaihttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/brilliontblog/no... How many times have I seen users complain that this feature or this interface doesn't do what the expected (nor specified). Focusing the sponser up front is absolutely needed! !!
