Jerusalem Sweet-Hot Noodle Casserole Yerushalmi Kugel - March 4, 2008

This is a very unique dish that can be found all over Jerusalem. It is a noodle casserole with carmelized sugar and lots of black pepper. Serve this warm as a different kind of side dish. I originally got this recipe from a community cookbook that was given to me along with all the other brides that got married that same year. Recipe is from Susie Gale with only a minor change. -- posted by scancan

Mamaliga (Aka Polenta) - March 4, 2008

This is the Romanian form of cornmeal mush that is called Polenta in northern Italy. If you make more than what you need right away, you can bake or fry it later on (check my other recipes), which is more delicious than the first day! -- posted by AniSarit

Purim Hamantaschen (Stuffed Pastry Dough With Filling) - March 4, 2008

Purim is a spring holiday commemorating the heroic actions of Esther, Queen of Persia, who prevented Haman from massacring her people. These triangular pastries, literally meaning "Haman's pockets" were inspired by Haman's three-cornered hat. They are pockets of pastry usually stuffed with a sweet poppy seed mixture, or with the dark prune butter sold as "lekvar". Infact, they can have any preserve in them that you wish, but the ones i mentioned are the classics. Recipe from.
