Grandma's Best Ever Banana Nut Bread - April 18, 2008

This is dark, rich and moist. It is sweet and flavorful and I am told unlike any other people have tasted. Some liken it Mimi's Cafe, but say it is better. My mother, Belen, who passed away at the age of 100 had been making this for as long as I can remember. Please follow the instructions regarding putting the vinegar in the milk in one cup and the baking soda in warm water in another before mixing it with other ingredients. It makes a difference. -- posted by Chef Lunita

Chasen's Beef Belmont With Matzo Balls - April 18, 2008

Ronald and Nancy Reagan were regulars at Chasens. It was there that they decided to marry in 1952; and they continued to come in for the Tuesday night special for decades later, even when they lived in the White House. Their favorite dish was the Beef Belmont, a Jewish dish with origins in Eastern Europe. The recipe yields a soup plus a platter of sliced beef. One can add their own accompanyments to the beef platter. Local history information from the archives of the Los Angeles Library. --.

Chasen's Chopped Salad - April 17, 2008

Chasen's Restaurant is well known as a part of Hollywood history, however, it's fame was broader than that. Every American president since 1945 (until the restaurant closed in 1995) ate a Chasen's meal. Even though Franklin D. Roosevelt did not dine there, Eleanor did. It was the restaurant where Ronald Reagan courted Nancy Davis for two and a half years; and the place where he proposed. After Reagan became governor of California, and went on to became president, a special back door was...

Super Veggie Salad With Creamy Almond Dressing - April 17, 2008

I just bought a 3 pound bag of almonds from Sam's club and this dressing is a wonderful way to use them! I hope you enjoy! This dressing thickens up after sitting for a few minutes, so you could actually use less oil(34 cup) and the rest water or maybe apple juice and it would be just as good and less calories! The dressing also makes a great dip! -- posted by Sharon123

Spicy Chicken & Rice - April 17, 2008

This can also be served as a stew with pita breads, but I like it served atop rice. Canned tomatoes can be substituted for the fresh if you like (sometimes I like to use the fire roasted canned tomatoes). -- posted by Karen in OC

A new twist to wraps, this grilled one mixes in turkey hot dogs, a cheesy texture and a perfect peppery flavor to tie it all together. Best done on the George Foreman grill. -- posted by Diane E
