Wasabi and Ginger Shrimp Salad (Low Fat) - January 31, 2008

This is my latest attempt at putting together a lunch that is both low fat and has a bit of flavor. If you like things with a bit more 'zing' you could add more ginger to taste. You can serve this on a bed of lettuce or in a sandwich. I had it with two slices of bread. The cooking time represents the chilling time. -- posted by Sarah_Jayne

Kansai-Style Okonomiyaki - January 30, 2008

I got this delicious recipe for Okonomiyaki from my friend Mayumi, who is from Osaka. Okonomiyaki is basically a savory vegetable and meat pancake that is topped with 2 kinds of sauce: Okonomi sauce, which is similar to Worcestershire sauce but is thicker and sweeter, and Mayonnaise - the mayonnaise used on okonomiyaki is a Japanese brand called Kewpie. It is a bit thinner and more tangy than the mayo sold in the US. Many people call Okonomiyaki "Japanese Pizza", which is a...

Shoyu Soup (For Ramen) - January 30, 2008

Can't remember where I found this recipe, it may be a combo of different ones but my husband said it was as good as the ramen shop's. So, I'm posting it. While I added some chicken bouillon to suit our taste, I also added a little more dashi and another splash of soy sauce, so please do adjust the seasonings to your taste! -- posted by JMigs;0)

Taiyaki - January 30, 2008

What is Taiyaki Taiyaki is a Japanese pancake-like cake traditionally filled with sweet red bean paste (although it can be filled with other things like custard, chocolate etc), molded into the shape of a fish (usually a carp) and fried to a golden perfection. Taiyaki is often sold in smaller towns of Japan in taiyaki shops or stands. -- posted by Chef 744341

Desperate for Sushi - January 23, 2008

I love sushi but I'm not as near to places that serve sushi as I use to be, so I have to use what I have. I do have the basics just not the raw fish that I miss soo much. My favorites were spicy ahi and phylli maki. So I tryed to get as close to it as I can. As for amounts, I use leftover rice so I usally make one or two rolls and just cut off 14 of a cucumber and cut that into strips and that's still more than enough. Now these measurements or just guess. I really just eyeball and adjust to...
